How to make 5 different vector brushes.
Tutorial by Cerenza

Hello, and welcome to my tutorial. smile.gif

This tutorial will teach you this:

* How to make 5 diffrent Vector Brushes
* How to save these brushes making a vector pack smile.gif

These are the brushes we will use. smile.gif Remember that I am just showing you an optional way to make the brushes, feel free to change yours in any way you would. smile.gif

Now lets get started shall we?

***

1. The first thing we will do, is making a new canvas.

Like so:

2. Then we have to name it and choose the size. =) I chose to call it "Making Vector Brushes" since it's a tutt. And for the size I chose 600x600, because the bigger the better. It gives you alot of space to work on, and makes
thus easier.

3. Now that we have the canvas size, we should start to make a brush.
Go to your "tools" and select the "Eliptical Marqee tool".

Like so:

4. Now that we have that selected you have can make a circle using it. smile.gif
While holding the right mouse button in, drag it outwards until you feel that it's big enough.

Mine turned out like this:

You can see that it's black and is missing a piece.
To do that, I first selected the "Paint bucket" tool:

And then I filled the sircle with black by[ur] Left clicking the mouse and choosing "Fill"
Like so:

Now a just plain sircle is no good in my case, so I chose to delete a bit of it, to make it a little more interesting. By doing that I reselect the "Eliptical Marqee tool":

And made another little sircle with it. Then I just press the "Delete" button on my keyboard, and wolla! The little sircle makes a whole in the big one, as shown.

5. Now I desided that this would be good for a brush. so I go to "Edit --> Define Brush Preset" :

NOTE: Always remember to Delete the other brushes that you have stored on the brushes palette. By doing so:

Remember that this does not delete them totally, but only removes them from the palette so that you can make a new brushpack. Now Name the brush and click OK.

Now you have your first brush! Very good!! Now lets make another one. hehe.

6. Again go to "File-->New--->choose name and size. I just selected the same as the last brush.

There we go.

7. Now...we are going to use brush 1 to make brush 2. =) Confused? Don't be. It can sometimes be nice to have a brush that is allready very transparrent. without us having to change the transparrency by hand all the time. So now that we have the new canvas selected, you just click with the new brush one time, anywhere you like on the new canvas. Then you slect the "Ereaser" tool on your "Tools palette board" and: set the Opacity to : 69px and the Flow to: 40%
Both options can be found at the top of your screen every time you select a brush:

When you have this selected, you simply just erease on the brush that you clicked with, using a big "Basic" brush. =)

8. Now you have your second brush! =) So you do the same as last time to save it. Don't remember? I'll show you again:
Go to Edit--->and select Define Brush Preset:

Then name it for example Brush 2:

And wolla! You have your second brush in your Pack! =)
Very nice job so far!

9. Now we're making the third. =)
First you select a "basic" brush and make the size to be 2pixels. =)
Then you just, while holding in the left mouse button, just draw a shape as you see fit. =) I drew it like this:

10. Now we need to fill that with colour. =) It's very simple. You just select the "paint bucket" tool again on your "Tools palette", and click inside what you just drew. Remember that the ends have to meet perfectly, or the whole paper will be coloured, and you do not want that. hehe.

Now that you have it coloured. You simply save the brush like you did the other two. You don't remember? Well it's very simple: Edit-->Save Brush Present. Name the brush, click OK, and you have your brush saved to the rest of the brushes you made. : )

11. Now to the 4th brush. This is actually just a line made by the "Pen Tool", but you see, Vector Art is all about the pen tool when it all comes down to it. This is how it's done:
Select your pen tool on you "Tools Palette":

Then you click on some randome places on the paper. =)
I clicked like this:

Then you rightcclick on the path that you made and select: Stroke Path:

Make shure that it's the Brush that is selected, and click OK. =)

It should look like this now:

And again you save this brush as your 4th brush! =)

Yahoo!! Your doing great by the way! =) Saving brush by going : Edit--->Save Brush Present, and click OK. =)

12. Now we're making the last brush. A Dotted Line brush. =)
Select your pen tool off your Tools palette. =)

Click three places on the paper. Like so:

Then you go to the head of the screen to your left. Click on "Brushes". And then on the "Brush Tip Shape". Here:

This is where we make the dotted line be dotted. hehe.
You see the "Spacing"? If you set that to 150% you can see that the line you made is being devided into several dots, and that is exacly what you wish for, =)
I have chosen to use a size 4 brush.

NOTE: Make shure that you have the "Basic brushes" selected. If you don't there will not be dots like this!!

Now you go back to the paper and select your pen tool. Right click on the path that you made, and select "Stroke Path":

Make shure that the brush is selected and press OK. : )

Now it's dotted! =))

It should look something like this:
[img]http://home.no.net/cerenza/twodded/Dotted-line-resault.jpg

This is your 5th and final brush! =)) Very good!
Now you just have to save it and your pack will be done. Do you remember how to save it? Go to: Edit---> Save Brush Preset, name your brush and click OK. =)

13. Now you have your pack. You just have to save it as a

ABR. file for it to work properly and so that you do not loose it. =)

Here is what you have to do:

You go File--->Save Brushes:

Then this will come up:

Now you have to name the brush pack in the File Name erea and save it in the folder called Adobe Photoshop Only.
This folder is here:
Your photoshop program folder--->presents--->brushes--->Adobe Photoshop Only

Now just hit the save button and they are ready to be used!!
Awsome job!

This is how they turned out for me:

I hope you have enjoied this tutorial and that I have in

someway helped you on your road. =)

It's a great way to make brushes but you have to remember that brushes are always raster not vector (only shapes are vector)
