Fake 3d Text Effect, Beginner Options

Hello All

Today your going to learn how to create a 3D Fake text effect that just sits inside sprites and gives a nice quick effect on your headers, or without sprites. I have added lots of screenshots into this tutorial mainly for new users so they can find there way around.

This is what we are creating and as you can see it can be done in two different ways:

Lets get started but before we do you'll need a copy of SwishMax and a few free minutes of your time.


Open up you SwishMax (this is definately a crucial step )


Step One:

For the purpose of this tutorial I have set my movie size to 600x300 and the background color #9999CC as per image below:



Step Two:

Next we're going to be adding some text and I have chosen Blomster for this. Go to Insert - Text as per image:

Type in your text your wishing to use and make sure your text color is set to white, then go through the exact same steps to add your text again but this time set the color to 53799B
Your screen should now look like this:


Step 3:

Coffee Break
On a serious note now you have added your text in twice and if you have done it correctly the white text should be on the bottom of the blue. Now on the left of your screen under Scene 1 click on the bottom text layer and right click onto it and scroll to where it says Convert - Convert To Sprite now do exactly the same with the first layer of text.
Your screen should now look like this:

Easy so far huh?

Step 4:

You still following me? good as I need reassurance I'm not talking to myself lol
Ok now the fun part to all of this. Click the the tiny plus sign on your bottom sprite so it opens up. Now click onto your text and right click Effect - Dissappear From Position - 3D Spin It will bring this screen up:
All you have to change is duration from 20 frames to 35 frames.

Now before you get too excited we are not quite finished, go back to your bottom layer of text and we're going to position it slightly above so it should now look like:


Finally now you can go to File - Test in either Player or Browser, and that's what you have created.

Now if you don't wish to have the 3D Spin Effect across the text that's fine, simply don't put your text into sprites or add the effect. Have fun with this as theres many different ways it can be done.
