Welcome to my first SiwhsMaz tutorial, thought this might be of help.

Create a focus effect
I will show you how to make it look like an image is coming into focus using SwishMax.

1. First you need your image. I have got this one from FreeFoto.com. You need 2 versions of the image. The normal one and you need to apply a 2-3pixel gaussian blur. I have used a 3 pixel guassian blur.

2. Go into SwishMax and import both your images by going to File->Import and select both of your images. Make sure both are aligned in exactly the same place, for example with my example the X and Y settings for both images are X:319 and Y:243. Make sure the blurred version is ontop of the crisp version.

3. In the timeline select the blurred layer and put the "place" (Right click frame and aselect place) action on the first frame. On about frame 5 put a fade out effect and make it about 10 frames long. Now play the movie and you should have something like this, minus the elaborate buttons:
