Redo a bad logo in vector
Scroll to the bottom of this post to see my final results!
In this tutorial I will describe how to redo a bad quality logo. It has happened already a few times that a client gives me a logo you just can't work with. And in the situation you have to work with it, simply because you don't know how to redo it, it can degrade your entire website, just because the logo spoils it all....
SwishMax can help you with this, and especially if you are building your site in Swish, a vector logo comes in handy, so thats why we are focusing on the redo in SwishMax in this tutorial.
Note: As fudoki already mentioned a couple of times before, a SwishMax-feature like exporting swi as an image would of course be perfect in this situation as well.. Maybe a future update for the program?
OK let's start.
1) Open SwishMax and insert the bad logo... (If the color settings are very bad and it's hard to get a hold of the outlines, try putting a shape on top of it, with a transparent fill, just play with this and see if it works out for you)
2) Zoom in on the specific detail of your logo, we'll do it one by one ofcourse.
3) Select the bezier tool with the settings {no line, fill colour of your choice}
4) Start drawing! Just do it slowly, piece by piece, so if you make a mistake, you can simply delete the last step.
5) Don't forget to save every now and then!!!
6) Another tip is that if you have different colours in the logo, group the shapes per colour in a sprite, so that it's easy to change a colour in one click! Simply by selecting all the shapes in the sprite and changing the colour.
7) Patience is a virtue ofcourse...
8) If you need to make curves, just click and hold the mouse, and move it in a dircetion so that it creates a curve. I made a small sample and taped it with CamStudio (great proggie, I just need to master the fine touches of it... you can see a little mistake at the end of the swf..)
Ok so now you're done, you can even animate it in SwishMax, using an outline effect or whatever, because you have the logo in very small pieces!
If you want to use this in Photoshop, just make it at a large size (vectorwork in Max doesnt have quality loss so just group everything in one sprite and enlarge it a couple of times)
I redid the following logo for an upcoming site, first the old logo, then the redo in Swihmax and finally the new logo as how it will appear in the new site
1. Old logo
2. Logo in SwishMax
3. Final logo
I hope this tutorial can be of any use, if so please post your results below!
