In this tutorial I will show you how to create a vector book. This book was created without reference and therefore you should be able to use the pen tool well.

Final Results
Attached Image

Step 1

Create a new canvas 800x600 pixels.

Step 2

Draw a rough page shape like so with the Pen Tool (P)

Step 3

Now use the Direct Selection Tool and some guides to get it looking a bit better

Step4

Change the color to a more suitable page color.

Step 5

Duplicate the layer a few times moving it a few pixels up, or down, left or right to give a few layer techniques.
Set the Blending options to Overlay and opacity to around 58-62%

Step 6

Group the layers under 'leftpage' folder.

Step 7

Duplicate the folder and rename the new folder rightpage.

Step 8

Let's add a 'dip' in the book right in the center. Draw a shape like below:

And create a layer mask.

Use the Gradient Tool (G) and select this tool to create a Double Gradient Mask.

Step 9

Let's not lose our place - create a bookmark shape like below (above the dip you just drew.)

Step 10

Make it realistic by adding highlights and shadows.
Create a white shape like below:

Select the Gradient tool (G) and change the setting to single gradient

Add a layer mask to the shape and create the Single Gradient Mask.

Create a shadow shape and apply a vertical Double Gradient Mask.

Step 11

Select the original bookmark shape and add the following Blending Options:

Step 12

Let's give the pages another dip each. Create a shape like this below the top layer of the leftpage folder. And create a horizontal Double Gradient Mask.

Repeat for the rightpage:

Step 13

Now that you've done a lot of the book let's add some color to those pages. Change the bottom layer of each pages color to a darker and more saturated yellow. Make it gradually more saturated and darker and stop when it looks right.

Step 14

Repeat this for the top layer of each page side.

Step 15

Let's add more depth. Create a shape like below underneath the layer that is just above rightpage. Set it's layer style to colour burn, set it's opacity to about 25% and then create a horizontal Double Gradient Mask.

Step 16

Select all layers and move them up to create space for the bottom part of the book.

Step 17

Let's add the rest of the pages...Create a loose shape that resembles the bottom of the book, like so:

Now go to fis it up a bit using guides to help you:

Step 18

Let's create the illusion of pages, add these Blending Options:

Step 19

Let's add more depth, realism to our book. Add these blending options to the bottom layers of each pageside:

Step 20

What's a book without text? Add some! Use the Text tool (T) and create a text box like this:

Step 21

Add in some text (I used lipsum.com's Lorem Generator) and set the Alignment to Justify (under the Paragraph Window)

Step 22

Use the Warp Text tool to create the flag effect. Select Flag, Horizontal and +3 for Bend and 0 for others. Note that for your page another setting may be neccesary (either bigger or smaller)

Attached Image

Apply settings and move the text into the right place:

Step 23

Duplicate the text layer and move onto right side (into rightpage folder). Edit the Tezt Warp to be exactly opposite of what you had before.

Step 24

Let's draw the cover, draw a shape like below:

Note that as the cover reaches the spine it curves in (in my picture it touches but you can have a gap betwen the point where it touches the spine on one end to the other. The wider the gap the fatter the book.
