NOTE: I have really cheap photoshop that i got for free so some buttons may be unfamiliar. Just ask.

1. Pick the image that you want decolorized.

2. Select the magnetic lasso tool. Draw an outline around the area you want to keep its color.

3. Select New Layer Via CUT. (for me: Layer >> New >> Layer via Cut)

4. Change the background to a layer. (for me: Layer >> New >> Layer from Background)

5. Now go to the layers pallette and make sure your drawing on the layer you want BLACK AND WHITE. Then choose a way to make it black and white. You can make it grayscale (for me: Image >> Mode >> Grayscale) or what i think is an easier way, basically sucking the color out of it in the hue form (Ctrl + U , Saturation -100)

You can play around with the color if you dont want just B&W. Just click Colorize in the corner and play with the Hue.

6. Click okay and then thats it.

Hey yooyu and welcome to 13Dots!

There are more ways to skin a cat, mostly the way to cut out the image you want, but your approach is good and the result is fab thumbsup.gif

Thanks for adding!

Eddie

Edit: I hope you don't mind for adding to your thread, here is another approach, pretty simple too. Create a new layer over your image, draw with the black brush pencil/brush the part that you want B/W and when select Color from the Layers Panel. It will get automatically B/W. The good part about this approach is that you can use the eraser tool in case you made a mistake, you can use the brush tool for softer edges and so forth. PSD file attached Tip-Hat.gif
